HISTORY

SDR TECHNOLOGIES, LLC was created in 2004 as a subsidiary of SDR Plastics, Inc. The company’s initial focus was on the recycling of waste polymers from End-of-Life-Electronics (EoLE), one of the fastest growing portions of America’s waste streams. The goal was to create high-value, economically viable compounds from recycled electronic polymer waste while also working to find suitable end-use applications.

By leveraging the existing core competencies of SDR Plastics and sister company STAR Plastics, we have made great strides in converting waste polymers into viable post-consumer content compounds. As environmental awareness increases and manufacturers look for ways to incorporate more recycle into their product lines, we are poised to help.

TECHNOLOGY

One of the initial obstacles in the process was the identification of different polymers included in the feedstream. SDR TECHNOLOGIES needed fast, accurate and reliable polymer identification equipment that would fit well within existing systems. After extensive research of various equipment and technologies, SDR TECHNOLOGIES purchased a mIRoSpark unit from IoSys. The mIRoSpark technology enables SDR TECHNOLOGIES to accurately identify various polymers, as well as some of the elemental components within them.

After becoming an early purchaser of the mIRoSpark technology, SDR TECHNOLOGIES also became a distributor. The complete range of IoSys technology, including Near Infra-Red (NIR) Optic and Sliding Spark Spectrometer systems, is available through SDR TECHNOLOGIES.

PURCHASING

Through our sister company STAR Plastics, Inc., we also serve as an outlet for mixed polymers. Our interest in a given material type depends predominantly on its composition, but we also consider the material’s cleanliness, the number of different polymers, color, form, and other factors. We typically look to purchase lighter color materials in baled, nested, or shredded form.

Post-consumer content products are developed, specified, and sold on a case-by-case basis. Sales are handled by our sister company STAR Plastics and select distributors.
